BackgroundOsteoprotegerin: OPG is a cytokine receptor that belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family which functions as prominent mediators of immune regulation and the inflammatory response. OPG binds RANKL which functions to inhibit NF-B signaling; this acts to decrease differentiation, cell survival and immunity (1). OPG inhibits osteoclast production and differentiation and this serves to reduce bone reabsorption (2).
