BackgroundInsulin like growth factor 1: IGF-1 belongs to somatomedin group of peptides with Insulin and IGF-2, together this group has an anabolic function important in growth and development. IGF-1 binds to IGF-1 receptors and this activates AKT pathway which stimulates cell proliferation, cell growth and cell death inhibition (1). IGF-1 is released upon growth hormone stimulation of liver cells and target cells; it promotes growth in the muscles, nerves, kidneys, bones, lungs, bone marrow, skin and almost every cell in the body (2).
